With his brother, Aleksei, part of the famous Tkachev brothers painting team who worked together all their lives. They decline to say which brother paints which part of each picture. The brothers form part of the talented Moscow School of artists who graduated from the Surikov Institute and emerged out of the post war Moscow of the 1960's. Others in this group include Vladimir Stozharov, Victor Ivanov, Geli Korzhev and Valentin Sidorov.
In the background is part of the artist's private collection of paintings by his contemporaries. Many of these artists all traded artworks with each other and today have fine collections of the work of their own generation.
