Vladimir Stozharov's 1959 view of "Venice"in the background was his wife's favorite painting and she always refused to sell it. Sacha Stozharov was an English teacher who kept detailed files and archives of his fathers work.
Although Sacha spoke fluent English and taught it he often pretended he didn't speak a word when American collectors visited to buy his father's artworks. That way he could hear what they were saying in unguarded moments during the long and tense negotiations that followed.
